This week I have a whole set of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures that I’ve customized with realistic paint jobs to help bring out the beautiful sculpts. Each figure has been hand painted from head to toe with washes and dry brushes and several shades of various greens and yellows to really help bring the new figures to life. I’ve also customized and painted all of their weapons, and given Michelangelo’s nunchucks and kusarigama real metal chains. I’ve done the same thing with Donatello’s trisected bo staff.
Click the photo below to check out the full set of photos, and be sure to scroll all the way down to see some comparison shots of the customs next to the original factory figures to get the full effect.
Also, if you’re interested in them, I have this whole set for sale on eBay in one lot, so bid often and tell your friends.
I saw your post on ebay and these are absolutely gorgeous. I would have definitely put a bid down, but I love customizing and want to give it a go on my own. Did you break down the bodies to paint or just apply washes over the factory colors? Again amazing work!
I did not break down the bodies, but if I ever do another set I will. I just gave each figure a light sanding, applied washes, then dry brushed over it. Each turtle has like 4 different shades of green on their skin.
Is there a website or something that has a good tutorial on putting in the real chain on action figure accessories like Mikey’s nunchucks?
Not that I know of. I suppose I should do one. It’s really not that hard. Each link has a split so you can get some pliers and open one link, drill a small hole at the top of each ‘chuck, and loop it through.
