Yesterday I posted about a rumor floating around regarding a line of 6″ Star Wars figures Hasbro was planning. Thankfully the internet Gods saw fit not to make me look like an idiot, and today it was revealed officially by Hasbro in an article on USAToday that they are indeed planning a line of 6″ Star Wars action figures called Star Wars Black Series. The line is set to have very detailed sculpts, and loads of articulation, close to the amount packed into current Marvel Legends from the looks of it.
Continue after the jump for some info regarding the figures, and shots of the first action figure in the line revealed thus far, X-Wing Fighter Pilot Luke Skywalker!
Quotes from the USAToday article:
After 35 years of fantastic plastic standing tall in pop culture at 3¾ inches, Hasbro is releasing the Star Wars Black Series this year, beginning a new set of 6-inch figures that will feature more articulation and an increased attention to detail.
Priced at $19.99 each, eight figures are planned for 2013 — Hasbro will primarily draw characters from the original Star Wars trilogy of films while also bringing in key players from the prequels.
The first wave of four, due out in early to mid-August, includes Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing Fighter flight suit, fan-favorite droid R2-D2, bad guy Darth Maul and an Imperial Sandtrooper.
The current “vintage”-style line of 3¾ figures will also continue under the Black Series banner.
You can read the article in its entirety here. Holy crap, this is definitely revolutionary news in the action figure world. What’s next? 6″ G.I. Joes? 12″ Marvel Legends? Action figure marrying between toy lines? It’s a slippery slope, people! At any rate, I can’t wait to buy these. Let me know what you think in the comments!
Geez, don’t put it in their head to do 12″ Legends! Then I’ll have to start another collection!
This is excellent! Wow. I’m pretty speechless. Just… wow.
This makes me want to buy my first Star Wars figure in years. I am so excited for this I can barely contain it!
