10 DC Comics Characters too Obscure for Club Infinite Earths

5. Arak Son of Thunder
I’ve got a soft spot for Native American heroes. Spirit is one of my favorite G.I. Joe members, T. Hawk is one of my favorite Street Fighter characters. I’m not sure what it is, I just seem to cling to them. Arak, Son of Thunder is a severely underrated DC Comics character. Arak’s stories took place during a time before the English settled in America, and were awesome because they had Arak frequently going up against all sorts of well known mythical creatures from all sorts of cultures and religions. Then they did some time traveling stuff with him, but I try not to think about that.

POSSIBLE ACCESSORIES: Sword, tomahawk, knife, bow & arrow

4. Sgt. Rock
I don’t think Sgt. Rock is as obscure as the others on this list, but I still don’t see as many fans wanting him as there should be. He’s a classic DC Comics character, co-created by Joe Kubert. His character has an interesting history, because he’s a World War 2 soldier, but was created in the late 50’s well after World War 2. This meant that instead of being pure propaganda, Sgt. Rock’s stories presented a far less “glamorous” look at World War 2, that truly dealt with some serious themes.

If Mattel ever gets to Sgt. Rock, they would also be starting another team, since Sgt. Rock is a part of “Easy Company”. Easy Company has a lot of members, so I doubt they could do them all in some sort of multi-pack, but to be honest if we just got Sgt. Rock I’d love it.

POSSIBLE ACCESSORIES: The guy is basically a G.I. Joe, so let’s load him up! Guns, knives, grenades, bullet belts, you name it!

3. Bat Lash
When Mattel released Jonah Hex in the DC Universe Classics line, I got really excited at the thought of getting more western DC Comics characters. Sadly, that’s not been the case yet. Heck, we haven’t even gotten a figure of the original Vigilante. But this entry isn’t for Vigilante, he actually has a ton of support from the fans. This is for Bartholomew Alouysius Lash, AKA “Bat Lash”. Making Bat Lash opens the door to make the other members of the “Rough Bunch”, a team of Western DC Comics characters. El Diablo, Pow Wow Smith, Cinammon, Nighthawk, Madame .44…oh yes, this would be awesome. Plus, Bat Lash and several others from the Rough Bunch were featured in a 2 part episode of Justice League Unlimited, “The Once and Future Thing”, so that automatically gives them extra cool points.

POSSIBLE ACCESSORIES: Guns, knives, all the character appropriate weapons they need!

2. Amethyst
I was shocked that Amethyst got a series of cartoon shorts in Cartoon Network’s DC Nation, and at the same time surprised that it hadn’t happened sooner. A teenage girl named Amy Winston finds out she’s actually a princess of a world from another dimension, Gemworld and she has to go and save it. Her story seems perfect for marketing, I have no idea why they didn’t try anything more sooner.

What’s really cool about her character is that she’s actually a Lord of Order in the DC Universe, along with Dr. Fate and the Phantom Stranger. So I’d say she’s deserving enough of her own figure. And if they make Amethyst they need to make her archnemesis Dark Opal. Heck, they could even use their Masters of the Universe Classics Swiftwind and retool it to giver Amethyst her alicorn.

POSSIBLE ACCESSORIES: Her sword for sure, perhaps some magical energy constructs?

1. Captain Carrot
And this brings us to possibly one of the most obscure DC Comics characters that Mattel will never likely touch. Captain Carrot, the super hero rabit from the alternate Earth-C, populated by nothing but sentient animals. Yes, Captain Carrot is a “funny animal” character, but by saying he exists on an alternate Earth as a part of the DC multiverse, I think this legitimizes the character. After all, if there’s a multiverse, whose to say there isn’t an alternate Earth with anthropomorphic animals?

And Captain Carrot wouldn’t be complete without his Amazing Zoo Crew, his team of fellow superheroes that exist on Earth-C. And in some stories, writers have juxtaposed their cute, cartoony appearances with darker tones and plots which sounds weird (and is), but is also pretty interesting. Release Captain Carrot by himself, make the whole Zoo Crew in one pack, but yes I would absolutely be down for a Captain Carrot figure.

POSSIBLE ACCESSORIES: Some “cosmic carrots” of course!

Man, writing this up really got me thinking just how cool having figures of all these characters would be. Sadly, this is a list of really obscure DC Comics characters that will likely never get made for Club Infinite Earths, but hey, a guy can dream can’t he? So what do you think of the list? Do you agree that they’ll likely never get made? Let me know what your own list of 10 most wanted obscure DC Comics characters is in the comments below!

  1. Is Detective Chimp too obscure? Everyone loves monkeys and he was even in Batman: Brave and the Bold so he may actually be a good choice. That’s just me though.
