Paul Feig, director of the upcoming Ghostbusters 2016 reboot movie, posted an image, on his Twitter account, of Mattel’s upcoming 6″ line of action figures of the whole new female Ghostbusters team, featuring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. Ghostbusters is set to hit theaters on July 15th, 2015.

Director Paul Feig’s tweets are a response to the recent outcry from fans to Disney for the lack of merchandise of their female characters. Fans noticed Black Widow, Gamora, and Rey being removed from merchandise for Avengers: Age of Ultron, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens respectively. This prompted the #WheresBlackWidow #WheresGamora and #WheresRey hashtags. Paul Feig wanted to assure everyone that his female led Ghostbusters movie would have plenty of action figures and merchandise. There’s no word yet on if these will be just be sold on Mattycollector, or if they’ll be mass retail. My feeling is that since the movie will be a big theatrical release, then these will be seen at regular retail.
Fear not. Action figures of our Busters have already been in production for months. Several types & sold separately. https://t.co/ucW3xdaLWx

It’s also interesting to note that we’ll be getting figures and other merchandise from at least Funko and Diamond Select as well. There’s not much else to go on so far, but I would expect a big showing for Ghostbusters from Mattel at the 2016 New York Toy Fair in February. What do you think of the reveal? Personally, I’m intrigued and excited by the new movie. I do wish it was a “passing the torch” sequel instead of a reboot, but I’m optimistic about it. I think the figures are looking pretty spot on to the actresses as well. Will you be picking up the figures for the Ghostbusters 2016 movie? Will you even see the movie? Let me know in the comments!
