Scorpion is a fan favorite Mortal Kombat character and I love the new design they created for him for the latest game. I also really liked the new figures Jazwares made, but they were lacking, especially in the accessory department. So I aimed to fix that.
I gave Scorpion a realistic paint job, with a dark wash on his skin to give him shading, and dry brushing silver and gold on the apporpriate parts of his armor.
Scorpion included the blade that goes on the end of his “Get over here!” chain weapon, but sadly didn’t include a chain. So I took a length of small chain and attached it! Now he can throw it at his enemies and even wrap it around their necks and pull them toward him.
Next I went about recreating Scorpion’s most fatal and famous attack. His fatality. To do this I took a movie Ghost Rider head and repainted it to look like a real skull, gave him yellow glowing eyes and made sure it fit on the ball joint of Scorpion’s body.
After this I felt it was still missing something to fully recreate his fatality attack. The FIREBALL. I knew it would be a challenge, but I wanted to fully recreate the attack so I did something I’ve never done before. I took some aluminum foil and made the basic “skeleton” of the fireball with this. Then I took a hot glue gun and smothered the foil with it. It took several glue sticks to accomplish this, but I got the foil completely covered with hot glue. Then I went about “sculpting” actual flame detail all over the fireball to make it look as realistic as possible.
After it cooled I painted it with clear yellow and red making the colors blend as they would on real flame. Meaning yellow where the flame is hottest (the source, in this case being Scorpion’s mouth) and red at the coolest part (the end of the fireball). To make sure the figure could be posed lookling like the fireball was coming from his mouth, I drilled a small hole that a figure stand could fit into (the stand came from a movie Green Goblin).
And there you have it! Scorpion is now fully decked out in all his fatal glory, ready to recreate his deadliest attacks!
Did you snip the little piece off the spear to get the chain to fit? Also, would a black wash be able to adhere to the chain?
Pretty much. Just make a hole so the chain link can go through it. A black wash should adhere, but it could come off with little force.
