Review – Henrietta – Evil Dead 2, NECA

NECA Evil Dead 2 Henrietta Deadite Action Figure Horror Halloween Sam Raimi Bruce Campbell Army of Darkness
To celebrate Evil Dead 2’s 25th anniversary, NECA Toys has been steadily releasing action figures based on the movie. Up until now, they’ve all been variants of Bruce Campbell’s character Ash Williams. However, now we’re getting a brand new character in Henrietta. In the movie, Henrietta was portrayed by Ted Raimi, director Sam Raimi’s little brother. He had to be inside this torturous foam latex fat suit all day, and they reportedly had to frequently drain his sweat from it. That part has no bearing on this review, but if it grossed you out, then I’m just preparing you for this figure. It’s disgusting.

In the movie, Henrietta was the wife of Professor Knowby, the former owner of the cabin that Ash and crew get stuck in. He had read from the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, or Book of the Dead. This released an ancient Evil Force that ended up possessing his wife Henrietta. Professor Knowby was forced to dismember her and lock her in the cellar to save his own life, and with the cabin full of people and the Evil Force stronger than ever, they now have to contend with the lady of the house.

So join me as I take a look a closer look at Henrietta!

News – Preorder MOTUC Castle Grayskull Today!

Mattel Masters of the Universe Classics Castle Grayskull BlueprintsIf you haven’t already heard, Mattel is trying to get a Masters of the Universe scale Caslte Grayskull made! This is a huge undertaking, and seriously surprising that Mattel could even attempt it. In order to even try to get it made, Mattel needs a minimum amount of preorders. And they don’t have the budget to mock up a prototype beforehand. The only thing fans have to go on are a series of blueprints showing off the scale, dimensions, and play features the castle will have. The only other caveat really, is the price. It’s going to cost $250 + shipping and tax. That is definitely not a small amount of money. This is going to be a very small production run though, just like everything else MOTUC related. And the castle really is going to be huge, so it seems that the cost could be justifiable. At least to me, the price becomes even more justifiable when you consider that Hasbro is re-releasing the deluxe Millennium Falcon from a few years back, this time in vintage style packaging, and it’s going to be sold for $250. And it’s a mass retail release.

At first you may be wary to preorder something that isn’t even made yet, but the best part of this preorder is that you put no money down. The preorder charges your card for exactly $0.00 and when (not if) the Castle goes through, absolutely no money will leave your account until the estimated release date of December 2013. You could put away $25 a month and by this time next year you’ll have more than enough to buy it. If this sounds like something you even want a little bit, I’d recommend going over to Mattycollector.com and preordering it.

Still not convinced? Continue after the jump for the full sized blueprints, a video of a foam mockup showing the scale of the castle, a message from the Four Horsemen, and a ton more detail regarding the castle, to get all the information you need to make an informed decision.

Review – Black Lion & Keith – Voltron Classics, Mattel (24 Pictures!)

Mattel 23" Voltron Classics Black Lion and Keith Action Figure Set

So this is it. After waiting nine months since the first Lion/Pilot set was released by Mattel in February, we’ve come to the end of the road for Voltron. We now have the final piece of the puzzle, the Black Lion with pilot Keith. Mattel no doubt waited to release the Black Lion last so fans wouldn’t be able to connect any of the lions together until the very end. Well played Mattel. Well played.
Just so you know, I’ll be reviewing the Black Lion as its own figure. I will not be reviewing the completed Voltron here. That will be its own separate review. For now, I’m just taking a look at the Black Lion and the Keith figure. So without further ado, let’s take a look at Mattel’s Voltron Black Lion with pilot Keith set.

Welcome New Sponsor DASH, & Enter to Win a Sideshow Snake Eyes Action Figure

Please welcome Mint Condition Customs’ newest sponsor, Collector-ActionFigures.com, also known as DASH. Their website allows you to track your collection, communicate with other collectors, list your wants and offer your own items for sale or trade. They’re still growing (i.e., not every action figure is in the database yet, but they’re already quite comprehensive), and every new user can help add to its database of figures. One of the most attractive features about DASH is the want/sell option. This feature sounds like it’s a dream come true for collectors. For years, collectors have been forced to deal with eBay and high eBay fees, but if DASH can get a lot of users, then this could seriously become a good alternative to eBay for those just wanting to deal with strictly collectors and who just want to sell and trade their figures.

There’s more information and the complete contest details after the jump.

He comes with a great likeness to Jackman, removable jacket, two sets of arms (jacketed, and bare), and two sets of hands (claws out, and normal fists), and is fully poseable. Toy Reviews From Around the Net – October 1st – 7th 2012

NoisyDvL5 at itsalltrue.net has been doing something interesting for a couple of weeks now. He’s been adding a new feature to his site that he calls “Review Roundup” wherein he adds links to toy websites the net over who have done a review in that past week. Well, he’s been gracious enough to include this very website in his review roundup feature. The idea behind this is not only to bring visitors to each other’s websites, but also to allow for the toy community to stumble upon a website they may not know about, and possibly a toy line as well. So in keeping with the whole “toy community” idea, I thought it would be best if I started doing the same thing. My thinking is that all of the websites involved in the “roundup” could do this and that way we’d be helping each other out. Ya know…like a community.

This week’s list includes twenty-two different websites and features a total of sixty-nine reviews! The Reviews are all categorized by major brands, but the smaller brands are all grouped together under the “Miscellaneous” heading. Independent toy companies, such as Onell Design or Spy Monkey Creations are listed under the “7th Market” heading.

Continue after the jump for the full list, and remember: The offsite reviews do not necessarily reflect the views of Mint Condition Customs.

NYCC 2012 – Mattel DC Red Hood, Captain Marvel Jr., and Silk Spectre Revealed

New York Comic-Con Mattel DC Signature Collection Club Infinite Earths Captain Marvel and Red Hood RevealsThanks to VEEBEE over on The Fwoosh for the scoop. This morning over at the Mattel booth, they had some new figures on display that DC fans would love. For the DC Signature Collection (or Club Infinite Earths if you prefer) they revealed two long awaited characters: Captain Marvel Jr. and the Red Hood. Fans have been waiting to complete the Marvel family ever since Captain Marvel was released in DC Universe Classics. Red Hood has been another demanded figure, though a lot of fans may not be in tune with the particular version they’re releasing. There’s been a lot of clamor for a Jason Todd Red Hood figure, in his biker jacket and helmet. Mattel is indeed releasing a Jason Todd Red Hood, but it’s from the Grant Morrison era where he was wearing the classic style hood with a more garish getup.

Also revealed for the Watchmen Club Black Freighter subscription is Silk Spectre! Everybody knows what characters will be appearing in the Watchmen line, but of course Mattel is spreading out the reveals, because we’re still not sure exactly how Mattel will translate them into figures. But so far, so good.

Continue after the jump for the photos, and stay tuned for more NYCC news!

News – GBJR Toys Raising Funds For More Indie Spotlight Figures

Shocker GBJR Toys Indie Spotlight Series 2Indie Spotlight is the line of figures produced by Shocker Toys. A lot of things have happened over this year that have resulted in Geoff Beckett, the founder of Shocker Toys, to branch off into his very own toy company titled GBJR Toys (no surprise what the letters stand for). Indie Spotlight is one of those figure lines that has a lot of fans, but also has encountered a lot of problems with distribution and online orders. All of that should change soon with the company’s rebranding and passion to move forward and keep making toys.

To help with that, Geoff Beckett has launched an IndieGoGo campaign (similar to Kickstarter) to help raise funds to produce a second run of Indie Spotlight Series 2, as well as lock in money for new tooling for future Indie Spotlight figures, and produce new body types for the figures. There are lots of cool incentives, such as getting your very own character made into an Indie Spotlight figure (if you can shell out $11,000), and even a trip to Toy Fair 2013.

In addition to this, I had a very brief correspondence with Geoff Beckett to answer just a couple of questions some fans might have regarding the rebranding.

Continue after the jump for the correspondence, a full description of the IndieGoGo campaign, and some cool pictures too.
