New Custom Figure – Justice Lords Superman (Man of Steel Movie Concept)

Hey everyone! I had so much fun customizing that last Man of Steel Superman figure, I thought I’d try out something different. So I took a Movie Masters Man of Steel Superman and painted him in Justice Lords colors. I even repainted his head to look more realistic and angry, and gave him an alternate “heat vision blast” head. And I made two different sets of heat vision, one long and more wild looking, the other shorter with smoke coming off of the ends, to recreate the scene from the episode of Justice League where Justice Lords Superman lobotomizes Doomsday! Click here or the photo below to check out the full photo set and a detailed description of how it was made.

This custom is also currently for auction on eBay right now. If you’re interested, feel free to bid. If you know someone who might be, pass the link along!

News – DC Unlimited Injustice Green Lantern Figure Revealed

Another figure revealed today is the upcoming Injustice Green Lantern figure that’s going to be a part of the DC Comics Unlimited toy line from Mattel. It looks like it fits in with the other Injustice figures currently out now, but instead of being based on the regular version of Green Lantern from the game, it looks like it’s based on his “Regime” alternate costume in the game.

I’m very excited about the upcoming Man of Steel movie, and love the costume design. Stll, I couldn’t help but wonder what it would look like a little more classically inspired. So I took the newly released Man of Steel Movie Masters Superman figure and gave him a full repaint that’s inspired by his classic look. I made the reds and blues much more vibrant, and even gave him back his trunks! It has an intricate paint job with lots of washes and dry brushes of various pigments to help really bring out every detail in the suit. I made sure, for the yellow in his emblem and belt, to use two different gold hues to bring out a vibrant metallic look. I also sculpted a little spit curl coming down from his hair, to really drive home the classic Superman vibe I was going for. I also made it so Superman can actually look up now! The standard figure was a dog, in that it couldn’t look up at all, but with a little modification he can now look up to the skies, and looks good in a flying pose.

But I couldn’t just stop there! I also wanted to make some Superman related accessories. I made a few kryptonite rocks for a display, and even made him a kryptonite necklace, inspired by the one Christopher Reeve wore in the climax of Superman the Movie. I know that the kryptonite necklace is pretty specific to that film, but I dig it so much I couldn’t help but throw one in for this Man of Steel custom. I also made some heat vision blast attachments! I took some Bevmo Martini picks, and clipped off the ends and shaved down the bulbous parts, made some small starbursts out of hot glue on some clear vinyl, and stuck the ends of the picks into them until they cooled down, and painted them clear red. Since I didn’t have a second head to work from, these have to be attached with poster tack, but it works really well and looks so cool!

Now, not only does the Man of Steel have a classic looking costume, he’s fully ready to take on any villain in his way!

I’m a huge fan of the Batman: Arkham City video game and want figures of as many characters as possible. In the game, we got to see Bruce Wayne, sans the Batman costume. DC Collectibles gave us a Batman figure with an unmasked Bruce Wayne head, but his face was painted to look infected, just like in the game. So I used the head from that figure, and the body of a Mattel WWE Michael Cole Collect & Connect figure. I chose that body, because not only was he wearing a suit, it was the perfect height and build that really resembled how Bruce looked in the game, and was bulky enough that you could tell he had the body of Batman under that suit. So I repainted the shirt white, and the tie blue to match the game. I had to completely repaint the head to cover the painted on veins, and repainted the neck and hands to match the new face flesh tone. And now Bruce Wayne is ready to help take down Arkham City any way he can.

I’ve been wanting to make an Alfred figure to fit in with DC Universe Classics for a long time. His look is inspired by his appearance in the Batman Animated Series, but is made to fit in with DCUC in general. The head is from a Hush Alfred, and the body is a Mad Love Joker. I sculpted the bowtie on him, and painted it dark gray. I painted his jacket lapel gloss black, and even painted over the rosy nose DC Direct had painted on the Alfred head before for some reason, to blend it in with his normal flesh tone. I also had to mix a custom flesh tone for the neck to match the face. His serving tray comes from a Buffy the Vampire Slayer Cordelia figure, and the shotgun comes from a NECA S-Mart Ash figure that I modified. That’s one thing people forget, even though Bruce hates guns, Alfred likes to pack some heat in case anyone breaks into Wayne Manor or the Batcave. Now Alfred is ready to aide the Caped Crusader in his crime fighting exploits.

The Wonder Twins were made using only parts from the DC Infinite Heroes figures, so they would blend in with the other figures. Zan was made with from a Weather Wizard figure, while Jayna was made using the body of Star Sapphire and the head from Raven. Those particular bodies were chosen, because they had high collars and kept me from having to sculpt them. I did have to sculpt some on them though. I sculpted Zan’s and Jayna’s hair and even gave them their trademark Elf ears. I also sculpted their belts using a combination of Aves Apoxie Sculpt and polystyrene.

After that, I painted them both up using a violet color for their suits and a dark purple for the boots, with the yellow accenting on the boot tops and belt buckles. I had to repaint the heads too, of course. It was tough getting their eyebrows and eyelashes painted on, but it came out looking good. Their insignias were created by me in Photoshop in HD and printed out onto Testors Decal Paper and applied as a waterslide. And of course where would the wonder Twins be without their trusty pal Gleek? I had to give them Gleek. So I took a Heroclix Gleek figure, removed him from his base, and repainted him to give him more detail and that was that. He’s probably a bit too small to really be in the 3 3/4″ scale, but it was the only thing I could think of to add Gleek to the set, whom I felt was essential. And now the wonder Twins were ready to fit in with the other Infinite Heroes figures.

NYCC 2012 – Mattel DC Red Hood, Captain Marvel Jr., and Silk Spectre Revealed

New York Comic-Con Mattel DC Signature Collection Club Infinite Earths Captain Marvel and Red Hood RevealsThanks to VEEBEE over on The Fwoosh for the scoop. This morning over at the Mattel booth, they had some new figures on display that DC fans would love. For the DC Signature Collection (or Club Infinite Earths if you prefer) they revealed two long awaited characters: Captain Marvel Jr. and the Red Hood. Fans have been waiting to complete the Marvel family ever since Captain Marvel was released in DC Universe Classics. Red Hood has been another demanded figure, though a lot of fans may not be in tune with the particular version they’re releasing. There’s been a lot of clamor for a Jason Todd Red Hood figure, in his biker jacket and helmet. Mattel is indeed releasing a Jason Todd Red Hood, but it’s from the Grant Morrison era where he was wearing the classic style hood with a more garish getup.

Also revealed for the Watchmen Club Black Freighter subscription is Silk Spectre! Everybody knows what characters will be appearing in the Watchmen line, but of course Mattel is spreading out the reveals, because we’re still not sure exactly how Mattel will translate them into figures. But so far, so good.
