The Flash TV series is an underrated gem. Yes, it’s corny in a very early 90’s way, but the writing is solid and the acting is pretty good. The pilot might as well be a made for TV movie about the Flash. So. I wanted to capture the essence of the Flash from the show in action figure form. I felt the Marvel Legends Bucky Cap figure was the best fit, since it was detailed with lots of muscules that looked very similar to the suit John Wesley Shipp wore on the show. I had to really sand down those giant pirate boots to look right. Then, I used a combination of styrene and Aves Apoxie Sculpt to give him the suit detailing, such as the emblem on his chest, and the detailing around his forearms and waist. I sculpted a bit on the head as well to look more like the Flash’s cowl in the series, and used the ear pieces from a DCUC Flash figure as well. The paint job involved base coating in black and dry brushing three different shades of red to make it look as realistic as possible and bring out the sculpt. And after that, the Scarlett Speedster is ready to protect the people of Central City!

Mattel just revealed on their Mattycollector Facebook page that the canceled Damian Wayne Robin figure would be in the 2014 Club Infinite Earths subscription for the DC Universe Signature Collection! This figure was originally slated for a retail release in the Batman Unlimited line, but both Batman Unlimited and DC Unlimited have been cancelled, and with them some figures that fans were looking forward to. Damian Wayne was revealed earlier this year to much fan excitement, but when it was cancelled a lot of fans immediately started asking Mattel to include him in the subscription for the 2014 Club Infinite Earths. Well it looks like those people got their wish, because it’s happening.

I’m a huge fan of the Batman: Arkham City video game and want figures of as many characters as possible. In the game, we got to see Bruce Wayne, sans the Batman costume. DC Collectibles gave us a Batman figure with an unmasked Bruce Wayne head, but his face was painted to look infected, just like in the game. So I used the head from that figure, and the body of a Mattel WWE Michael Cole Collect & Connect figure. I chose that body, because not only was he wearing a suit, it was the perfect height and build that really resembled how Bruce looked in the game, and was bulky enough that you could tell he had the body of Batman under that suit. So I repainted the shirt white, and the tie blue to match the game. I had to completely repaint the head to cover the painted on veins, and repainted the neck and hands to match the new face flesh tone. And now Bruce Wayne is ready to help take down Arkham City any way he can.

I’ve been wanting to make an Alfred figure to fit in with DC Universe Classics for a long time. His look is inspired by his appearance in the Batman Animated Series, but is made to fit in with DCUC in general. The head is from a Hush Alfred, and the body is a Mad Love Joker. I sculpted the bowtie on him, and painted it dark gray. I painted his jacket lapel gloss black, and even painted over the rosy nose DC Direct had painted on the Alfred head before for some reason, to blend it in with his normal flesh tone. I also had to mix a custom flesh tone for the neck to match the face. His serving tray comes from a Buffy the Vampire Slayer Cordelia figure, and the shotgun comes from a NECA S-Mart Ash figure that I modified. That’s one thing people forget, even though Bruce hates guns, Alfred likes to pack some heat in case anyone breaks into Wayne Manor or the Batcave. Now Alfred is ready to aide the Caped Crusader in his crime fighting exploits.

Review – Elasti-Girl – DC Universe Signature Collection, Mattel

DC Universe Signature Collection Elasti-Girl Action Figure From Mattel

Say what you will about Mattel as a company, but one thing they seem to be doing right with the DC Comics license is their character selection. Outside of things like Minimates, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more diverse character selection than I have with DC Universe Classics. It’s been especially true ever since they’ve started the DC Universe Signature Collection for their Club Infinite Earths online subscription. They’re really trying to give fans the characters they want to complete all the teams they started years prior.

And with the release of Elasti-Girl, fans now have the complete Doom Patrol in their collection (sans Niles “The Chief” Caulder of course [the one shown in the photos is a custom by me]). So let’s take a closer look at the last team member to join the Doom Patrol in DCUC form.

New Custom Action Figure – Commissioner Gordon, DCUC Style

Hey there! This week’s new custom is a 6″ DC Universe Classics style Commissioner Gordon. I’ve felt that he has been long overdo in this line and wanted to fix it. He’s made using parts from the recent DC Universe Signature Collection John Constantine, and some parts from the DC Direct Hush Gordon figure, and of course some painting. Click the photo below to check out the full spread of pictures and a full description. Thanks for looking!

While Mattel gave us a good Commissioner Gordon action figure in the Dark Knight Movie Masters line, it’s just far too short and lacks the comic book aesthetics to blend in with DC Universe Classics. A DCUC Gordon is long overdo, which is what prompted this. I made him using the body from a DC Universe Signature Collection John Constantine figure, the head and tie from a DC Direct Hush Gordon figure, and the glasses from a Movie Masters Gordon. Constantine’s tie was loose and ragged looking, hence the change to a more professional look. I painted the pants to resemble tan khakis, and painted his face to cover up that red nose Gordon was sporting before. I gave him some new glasses, since the ones he came with are worthless, gave him his pistol, and now he’s ready to help Batman clean up the streets of Gotham City!
