Hey everyone. I know, I know, it’s definitely different from my usual custom action figure subject matter. However, when I was contacted by a groom to be, wanting his friends’ likenesses put on Avengers bodies as a gift for being in his wedding, I couldn’t resist. I loved the sentimentality, and it was nice doing something different. Not only that, but some time after, I was contacted by one of the former groomsmen who wanted to get the groom his own Avengers custom action figure, with him as Nick Fury! Again, I couldn’t resist. It made sense to complete the set, as it were. If nothing else, this project certainly helped me hone my hair sculpting skills. This set of custom action figures was a commission from a groom to be who wanted to give these to his groomsmen as gifts. He and his friends are Marvel fans, so he requested that I recreate their likenesses as members of the Avengers. The new Hulk head came from a wrestler figure, whose name I forget, but he looks like a 19th century strong man. I had to shave his mustache, and sculpt an entire head of hair over his bald head. The new Cap head started out as a DST Angel head. I pushed the hairline up some and gave him a new hairdo. The new Thor head came from a TNA Eric Young, with sculpted beard and resculpted hair. The new Iron Man head came from a Stargate Teal’c. I removed the forehead symbol, gave him a mustache, and hollowed out an Iron Man head, cut out the face plate, and stuffed the new head inside, so you could see his face.
Some time after this, I was contacted by one of the former groomsmen wanting to get the aforementioned groom his own Avengers custom action figure. Since all the other spots were taken, he felt it was appropriate to turn him into Nick Fury. His head started out as a TNA Sonjay Dutt. I sculpted on his beard, resculpted the hair, and gave him an eyepatch. It’s maybe a bit of a weird set of custom action figures, but I enjoyed doing something different and I really liked the sentiment behind it. If nothing else, I certainly honed my hair sculpting skills!
While figure collectors everywhere are still waiting with baited breath for the Hasbro 6″ movie Avengers figures to hit retail, Marvel Select has just released a figure of the Hulk from the movie. My local comic shop, Keith’s Comics in Dallas, TX, got them in yesterday. I went and picked one up and felt the need to review him right away!
Mark Ruffalo did a fantastic job as Bruce Banner, and the Hulk in the Avengers movie. That’s right, that was Ruffalo, doing some motion capture acting for Hulk, so it would be entirely his performance. I love that.
And as much as I am still very much going to buy the 6″ Hasbro movie Hulk, I couldn’t resist picking up this green behemoth as well!
Keep reading to find out if Hulk smashed (go I hate myself for that) my expectations.
Apparently the Hasbro Marvel Legends movie Avengers figures have leaked, and thanks to xmeteorz of TheFwoosh forums, we have new images of the Walmart exclusive figures!
Most of these were already revealed as prototypes at conventions within the last year, however here we get a peek at a not yet revealed figure: Movie Hulk! That’s right, it looks as if Hasbro is making a Hulk figure based on his appearance in the Avengers movie in Marvel Legends style. He looks pretty big in package. They even had to fold his arms and squat his legs just to get him to fit in the package.
Hasbro stated that these figures will be released either before or during the release of the Avengers movie on Blu-ray/DVD. Some of these 6″ figures feature the new style of rocker ankles Hasbro has been implementing, such as the movie Hulk figure. However, Iron Man seems to be a repack from the previous Walmart exclusive Iron Man 2 6″ figure wave. Each figure comes with a display stand.
In addition, images of the cardbacks can be seen, showing the cross-sells!

Yesterday during one of Marvel’s live Twitter chats with the folks of Diamond Select Toys, they finally revealed the upcoming Marvel Select Avengers Movie Hulk Figure. They said it will stand 8.25″ tall and be released in April of 2012. Also joining the Hulk figure in April will be a re-release of the Iron Man Mark VI figure from their Iron Man 2 line repacked in Avengers themed packaging.
Thanks to MarvelousNews we have confirmations as well as verbal descriptions and photos of the new Avengers Movie based Quinjet and a new 3 feet long Shield Hellicarrier toy. Thanks to Dark Horse who posted the following information over on The Red Shadows message board.
