This was supposed to go up yesterday, but I was visiting a relative in the hospital most of yesterday and didn’t get the chance, so here you go. So let’s just jump right in, shall we?

Joker asks: Since the new DC Unlimited and Batman Unlimited figures will no longer feature a “collect and connect” figure, will the retail price end up being cheaper than DC Universe Classics, or will extra accessories be included with the new lines to justify the same price?

Neither actually. Raw material and labor costs continue to rise so removing the C&C element is our way of keeping costs around the same level.

Nathan asks: Next year during Club Infinite Earths, we’re only getting one oversized figure with Mallah. There doesn’t seem to be any more scheduled, and there are no more collect and connect figures either. So how/when will we be seeing more of the larger DC characters in figure form?

News – Mattel Announces MOTUC Castle Grayskull and Upcoming Figures at Power Con

Power Con Reveal - Masters of the Universe Castle Grayskull PlaysetToday at Power-Con, the Masters of the Universe convention, Mattel made an announcement during their panel about releasing a new Castle Grayskull playset for Masters of the Universe Classics. It will be based on Mark Taylor’s original design (the vintage Castle Grayskull) and cost approximately $200. Mattel will be taking pre-Orders for it in the Fall on MattyCollector.com. A minimum number of pre-orders will be needed to for them to be able to actually go through with releasing it. As it stands right now, they had no resources to produce a 2 UP or prototype. It will just be the front of the castle (a facade) and include the moat as well. The preorder system will have to be based on the promise of there being a Castle Grayskull. This is something brand new and was just approved by management. More details to be revealed at New York Comic-Con next month. Castle Grayskull will not have electronics so they will be able to ship it Internationally as well.

There were also some new figures announced, thanks to an email going out to all MOTUC subscribers. Snake-Face, Karatti (from the New Adventures of He-Man) and Octavia (from the Princess of Power cartoon). There will also be a Masters of the Universe Art show coming to Toy Tokyo in New York City this October. There will be art on display and sale, and the proceeds will go to benefit the Ronald McDonald house.

Huge thanks to Pixel Dan for reporting this, and thanks to He-Man.org for the scoop as well. Make sure to continue after the jump to check out all the images regarding the announcements.

Ask Mattel – Answers for September 17th, 2012

Mattel Mattycollector Logo

Well it’s a day late, but this Q&A was supposed to be for the 17th, hence the date up top. So anyway, let’s just jump right in!

Rick Dominguez asks: Why haven’t we seen the milestone characters get any love figure wise? People like Static Shock, Icon, Hardware, Rocket and even the members of the Blood Syndicate are characters we’d all really like to see in figure form soon. Thanks!

Static Shock came out in a JLU 3 pack a few months ago. No plans for others right now but stay tuned!

Tom asks: Since DC Club Infinite Earths is supposed to be a ‘club’, why can’t people who signed up be more active in it. Let them suggest a character utilizing parts already done (since there can’t be new sculpts) to come up with future DC characters for the line. For example Jade: using Dove’s body, sans cape, Wonder Woman’s right hand to show her birthmark along with a new head. Mattel could then review them and have a contest for members to vote on the top two characters to be added into the line out of five of their choices. Since it takes time they could be in the last part of the 2013 or early characters for 2014. It would generate interest in the club and also help Mattel know which characters members desire more.

Wayne asks: By when can we expect to have the new 52 JLA complete?

Time will tell. Nothing to confirm now.

Justin asks: With mattycollector now consistently having essential Masters Of Universe Classics like He-Man and Skeletor available, what are the chances of us seeing the same treatment for the DC Universe line? Main Characters like Superman Batman, and Wonder Woman go for extreme prices on the secondary market.

Review – Blue Lion & Allura – Voltron Classics, Mattel (24 Pictures!)

Mattel Voltron Classics Blue Lion and Princess Allura Action Figure Set

We’re getting down to the wire now. With just one more Lion/Pilot set to be released, we’ve almost got our completed Voltron! This month saw the release of the Blue Lion with pilot Princess Allura.

Allura was actually the second pilot to the Blue Lion. The original pilot was Sven, who was also released this month as a club exclusive figure, meaning you could only own one if you had signed up for the subscription last year. He was killed off early in the series, but when they dubbed it for America, they changed the dialogue to say that he was only injured (since fragile American kids couldn’t see a cartoon character die) and had to be sent off to another planet for healing. So Princess Allura took his place as a part of team Voltron. She was Princess and ruler of the planet Arus, the very planet that the Voltron Force was trying to protect. But in Sven’s absence, she became a very hands on monarch, and took to the fighting herself.

Continue reading to find out if the latest Voltron set lives up to the others and is a worthy addition to the series.
