News – Mattel Batman Unlimited Vampire Batman 6″ Figure Revealed
Holy Batman figure variants, Batman! I have to admit, this one was unexpected, to say the least. In an article posted on the LA Times today, this Vampire Batman figure was revealed. It’s based on the Elseworlds comic from the early 90’s where Batman was indeed turned into a vampire and proceeded to kill ALL THE PEOPLE. It’s actually kind of awesome.
The article says that the figure is from Mattel’s DC Unlimited line, but I think that might be wrong. This clearly belongs in the Batman Unlimited line. At any rate, I’m sure we’ll get clarification on this, as well as many more awesome reveals when Toy Fair comes next weekend. Thanks to Toy News International for the larger image.

Review – Big Red Predator – Predators, NECA
NECA’s Predators toy line is extensive, to say the least. They’ve practically made at least one version of every Predator on film, which meant that they had to look elsewhere. Back in 2003, Sandy Collora made a short film titled “Batman: Dead End” as a sort of director’s reel to show off his abilities. The story involved Batman chasing after the Joker, and then being interrupted by a Xenomorph from the Aliens franchise. And then, of course, the Predators show up as well and before you know it it’s just like those old Dark Horse comic books.
One of the predators on screen was the subject of today’s review, the aptly named “Big Red”. He was named so, due to all of his red armor, partly made in a samurai theme, complete with katanas. He was visually interesting and his unique armor set him apart from the others. The crazy thing is, Big Red only ever appeared in that short film. He never appeared in any actual official Predator movie, which makes the fact that NECA made him all the more awesome. I never even thought they legally could make him, but I suppose either they were allowed, or nobody wanted to tell NECA “no”. Either way, smart move.
I love the Predator films, especially the original. However, This is my first NECA Predator figure ever, and I’ll be honest and say that I was initially only wanting it, because I’m predictable and such a Batman geek that anything connected to him at all I MUST OWN. So join me as I take a closer look at Big Red and see if he’s worthy of a spot in your collection.

News – FX’s Archer is Getting an Action Figure Line
Gah! Holy crap, Archer is getting its own action figure line! I’ve been saying for years this needs to happen, and once again this week the Toy Gods are good to me and see fit to make it happen.
Archer is one of my favorite current TV shows, in no small part due to the hilarious H. Jon Benjamin. It’s also just generally one of my favorite shows ever. Thanks to Toy News International for the heads up.

News – Hasbro Reveals Star Wars Black Series 6″ Figures
Yesterday I posted about a rumor floating around regarding a line of 6″ Star Wars figures Hasbro was planning. Thankfully the internet Gods saw fit not to make me look like an idiot, and today it was revealed officially by Hasbro in an article on USAToday that they are indeed planning a line of 6″ Star Wars action figures called Star Wars Black Series. The line is set to have very detailed sculpts, and loads of articulation, close to the amount packed into current Marvel Legends from the looks of it.

News – Young Justice and Green Lantern Cancelled
In a turn of events that’s sent a large portion of the internet into full rage mode, Cartoon Network has cancelled the incredibly popular Young Justice and Green Lantern cartoons. In a press release sent out today, they announced their new and returning shows for the 2013-2014 season. Among the shows not listed were the aforementioned shows, along with Star Wars: The Clone Wars which is transferring to Disney XD after Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm.
Last year, fans got the bad news that Thundercats was cancelled when Cartoon Network released a similar press release with that show missing from it’s 2012-2013 season, so this does seem pretty official. Also damning is Green Lantern showrunner Giancarlo Volpe announcing on Twitter that Green Lantern was indeed cancelled and the show would finish out the current season.
Almost immediately after the announcements, a petition was put online to help save the show. Now, online petitions in general don’t seem to really get anywhere, but who knows what might come of it? Young Justice is insanely popular and is considered one of the best cartoons on television right now.
