So, I was married this past summer! June 20th, 2015. It was awesome, and these past few months as a married man have been amazing. Of course, being an action figure customizer, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to make my own wedding cake toppers. I decided to forgo the traditional cake toppers in formal wear, and instead decided to base the figures on our own personalities and clothing styles. I made myself, John, using the body of a DST Buffy Deluxe Angel, with the coat and arms from a DST Deluxe Spike. The head is a Marvel Legends movie Winter Soldier with a sculpted beard. My wife, Sarah, was made using a DST Buffy Deluxe Kennedy with sculpted bust, hips, and posterior to better match my wife’s body type. The head is from a Mattel female wrestler (not sure who it is), and the hair comes from a movie X-Men Jean Grey. Her favorite color is purple, so I gave her figure a purple shirt! Everything was painted appropriately using Testors Model Masters acrylics, and all sculpting was done with Aves Apoxie Sculpt. And now my wife and I are immortalized as action figures, ready to take on whatever the world throws our way.

Custom Action Figure – Batman 1989 Movie Style

Hey everyone! My latest custom action figure is up, Batman 1989 movie style! I took the recent NECA Batman Classic Video Game Appearance action figure and completely repainted it. It involved me taking apart the entire figure, including removing the head from the cowl (yeah there’s a Michael Keaton face under there!). I even detailed the face, including the black makeup around the eyes. I also gave my custom Batman 1989 movie figure two capes! One hangs naturally, the other has wires in the top for placing in his hands outstretched like when you first see him in the Batman 1989 movie. Pretty cool, huh? Just click the picture below to take you to the full page with the entire photo set, including a detailed description on the process of making it. And also, if you want to see some exclusive WIP photos and more, be sure to check out the Youtube video for it. And not only that, this custom Batman 1989 movie action figure is up for auction on eBay right now, starting at $0.99! If you’d like to own it, be sure and bid. If you know someone who might want it, feel free to pass the link along! Due to the way the license is set up, NECA wasn’t allowed to make a straight 7″ figure of Michael Keaton’s Batman 1989 portrayal. The only way they could do it is to paint it in the old NES video game colors. With the sculpt being excellent, I decided to change it and repaint the entire thing to look just like the Batman 1989 movie. This involved taking apart the entire figure (luckily NECA makes this easy with how their figures are constructed), including removing the head from inside the cowl (yes there’s a full Michael Keaton face under there). All the pieces were prepped, and then painted. I even put detailing in the face, including the black makeup around the eyes. For the cape, I dediced to do something extra. I took some black rayon material, and used a movie accurate cape pattern to make it. I then made a second cape, and added some wires running through the top for Batman to hold in his hands outstretched to mimic when he first appears in the movie. And now this custom Batman 1989 action figure is ready to take down the criminals of Gotham City!

Custom Action Figure – Ra’s Al Ghul, League of Shadows (Movie Style)

Here is my latest custom, Ra’s Al Ghul in his League of Shadows ninja gear from Batman Begins! I always wanted Mattel to make this version, but since they never did I just had to do it myself. Ra’s Al Ghul has been rendered in complete movie accurate detail, down to the plating on the back of his gloves and even his belt. I even sculpted in and removed the weird open mouth gap the Ra’s head had before. Click on the photo below to see the full photo set and detailed description on how it was made. Click here to see the video for a bunch of exclusive WIP photos! And if you’re interested in owning this custom League of Shadows Ra’s Al Ghul, it’s currently for auction on eBay. I always wanted Mattel to make a proper Ra’s Al Ghul Batman Begins figure, but since that never happened, here I bring you Ra’s Al Ghul in full League of Shadows ninja gear! Ra’s al Ghul was made using a Star Wars the Black Series Episode 3 Obi-Wan Kenobi, the head from a Movie Masters Ra’s Al Ghul, and the forearms from a Movie Masters Batman Begins Batman. I fused the Batman Begins forearms to the Obi-Wan arms, and used Aves Apoxie Sculpt to blend and fill in the gaps. I also added plating to the back of the hands (including the rivets!) with styrene. The lower cloak was replaced with fabric. The belt is made using two strips of styrene, with the belt buckle being fodder that happened to be perfectly movie accurate. Everything was repainted several shades of dark brown to match the movie, with the gauntlets dry brushed lightly for a metallic look. The head was also completely repainted, and I even sculpted in to cover that weird open mouth gap he had before. One katana later and League of Shadows Ra’s Al Ghul is ready to take down Batman and do all that is necessary to cleanse the world of corruption!

Custom Action Figure – Wedding Avengers (Groom & Groomsmen Gifts)

Hey everyone. I know, I know, it’s definitely different from my usual custom action figure subject matter. However, when I was contacted by a groom to be, wanting his friends’ likenesses put on Avengers bodies as a gift for being in his wedding, I couldn’t resist. I loved the sentimentality, and it was nice doing something different. Not only that, but some time after, I was contacted by one of the former groomsmen who wanted to get the groom his own Avengers custom action figure, with him as Nick Fury! Again, I couldn’t resist. It made sense to complete the set, as it were. If nothing else, this project certainly helped me hone my hair sculpting skills. If you want to check out the full photo gallery, complete with a full description on how each custom was made, CLICK HERE or the photo below. And be sure to check out the Youtube video I made for these, which has exclusive WIP (work in progress) photos! Unfortunately I didn’t get the NECA Street Fighter 4 figures when they were first released. I saw some color variants of Ryu, Chun-Li, and Akuma at Toys R Us a couple of weeks ago. Apparently they’re some last minute released from NECA to capitalize on Street Fighter before they’re license runs out and moves to Jazwares. Anyway, I saw the figure and he had a dark blue suit and gray hair. I’m the kind of guy who likes owning the most iconic version of a character as a figure, and I didn’t feel like searching the internet for the first release Akuma so I just painted him up instead.

I painted the gi the light gray-blue that the initial release had, his belt, wrist wraps, and sandals brown, and his hair red. I also painted the symbol on his back that apparently NECA didn’t even add on the first release of the Akuma figure. I felt it was an injustice so I added it and now he’s complete!

Don’t forget to check out the video I made for this movie concept Ultraman custom action figure near the bottom of the page to see some exclusive WIP (work in progress) photos!

I love doing movie concepts, and this is no exception. This is a movie concept custom action figure for Ultraman of the Crime Syndicate of America if he were to appear in the current DC Cinematic Universe. The body is a Movie Masters Man of Steel Superman, with the head of a DC Universe Classics New 52 Aquaman. I felt the hair and facial expression on the Aquaman figure were perfect for Ultraman. All I had to do was paint his hair and eyebrows, and paint the neck of the body to match the skintone. I smoothed out the detail in the shield emblem, and crafted the big “U” out of polystyrene and glued it in place. I repainted the entire body, giving it a dark wash and then dry brushing some lighter blue to really bring out the sculpt. After painting the belt details red and repainting a Man of Steel figure stand to match the new shield emblem (which can be viewed in the video below), Ultraman is ready to form the Crime Syndicate of America!
