New Custom Figures – Doomstroke and Justice Lords Batman (Movie Concept)

Hey everyone. Back again with some new custom action figures. This week I bring you some DC Comics goodness. First up, I have a movie concept Justice Lords Batman figure, complete with a Nolan inspired fabric cape! And I also have one that many of you may not even know about, Doomstroke! Doomstroke is an amalgam of Doomsday and Deathstroke that appeared briefly in the Superman/Batman story “Night and Day”, which largely took place in a universe where a bunch of DC characters were amalgamated into one another. I love mashups like that, so I couldn’t resist. Just click on each photo below to take you to the fully custom gallery. Also be sure to check out the videos I made for my custom Justice Lords Batman and custom Doomstroke to see some exclusive WIP (work in progress) photos! Thanks for looking.

This one may seem wacky for a lot of you, but trust me Doomstroke is a real character. Not many people remember him, but he appeared briefly in the Superman/Batman storyline “Night and Day”, which took place in an alternate reality where a bunch of DC characters were amalgamated into new ones. I love mashups in general, because they have the potential to yield something truly creative, so I had to make Doomstroke. Most of Doomstroke is made from a DCUC Deathstroke, with some pieces from a DCSH Doomsday. I sculpted the Deathstroke mask over the Doomsday head, as well as the eye patch. The knot and strips on the back of the mask come from a Hasbro ML Elektra. I used the biceps and upper forearms from Doomsday, glued them to Deathstroke’s gloves, and cut the tops off Deathstroke’s biceps and glued them to the top of Doomsday’s biceps so they have a bit of sleeve to them. The rest is just strategic gluing. I removed all the spikes I could from Doomsday and cut them up, and glued them all over Doomstroke. I even added some tiny spikes on his eyebrows to make them more pronounced. I added some nicks and cuts to Deathstroke’s sword and some Doomsday spikes to the pommel and crossguard, then painted it to look like Doomsday’s bony spikes. I also added Doomsday’s belt and attached the sword scabbard and pistol to him. Some dry brushes and washes later, Doomstroke is ready to take on any hero, no matter what dimension they come from!

I’ve already done a movie concept custom Man of Steel version of a Justice Lords Superman, so hey, why not do a movie concept Justice Lords Batman? This custom is made using the Man of Steel General Zod for the body, the forearms, feet, and belt from a Movie Masters Batman Begins, and the hands, shoulder pads, and head from a Movie Masters Dark Knight Batman. The new Justice Lords Batman emblem is cut from styrene, as is the piping around it. I also added some styrene to widen the boot tops. The cape is fabric and cut in the shape of the Nolan Batman cape. I went out and tracked down the best fabric weight for a figure in this scale, and made my own pattern. It can wrap over Justice Lords Batman’s shoulders, and be tucked behind them as well. I also made it long enough that when it’s pulled in front, all the cape tips are drooped on the floor all around him, in typical Batman fashion. A little bit of paint later, and Justice Lords Batman is ready to join Superman in keeping the public “safe”, Orwell style.

New Custom Figures – Dean Winchester and Castiel from Supernatural

Hey everyone! For this week’s new custom action figure, I have two for you: Dean Winchester, and Castiel the Fallen Angel from the television show Supernatural. Castiel is a custom I meant to post a while back, but completely forgot about it! So I decided to go ahead and post him with Dean. Both were made made to be completely accurate to the show. With Dean Winchester, the head actually came from a shrunken down mold of a custom sculpted 1/6 scale Dean head. I also made both of the Colt pistols from the show for Dean. Click each picture below to go to the full photo set for each custom. Also, don’t forget to check out the short Youtube vidoes I made for Dean Winchester and Castiel. It’s something I plan to do more of, showcasing my work on Youtube as well. Thanks for taking a look!

Dean Winchester is one half of the demon hunting brotherly duo, The Winchesters. I was tasked to recreate Dean Winchester in action figure form. He’s made using a custom sculpted 1/6 scale head that’s been molded and shrunken down to a 6″ scale, the body of a Diamond Select Toys Buffy the Vampire Slayer Deluxe Spike figure, and the coat from a DST Angel Season 4 Wesley figure. I gave the coat a new lapel, matching Dean’s from the show. Everything was painted to accuracy, including the stubble on his face. I also decided to go ahead and include some extras. I made both versions of the Colt pistol used in the show. The modern one was a repainted gun from my fodder bin. The older one was a modified fodder gun that I repainted, including the pentogram in the grip. With his buddy Castiel, Dean Winchester is ready to bust some demon heads.

New Custom Figures – Kenner Style Aliens Drake, SNES AVP Bat Alien

Hey everyone. I’m back with more new customizing goodness for you. I bring two new customs from one of my favorite franchises ever, Aliens. I have a custom Bat Alien designed after the character from the SNES Alien Vs. Predator game from the early 90’s, repainted with a more traditional Xenomorph color scheme (props to Jin Saotome for the recipe). I also have a custom of the Colonial Marine Smart Gun operator Drake! He’s based off of the look of the old 90’s Kenner action figure. You might remember a while back when I did a custom updating the design of the Kenner Sgt. Apone figure. Well, Drake is a continuation of that series. And yes, I definitely plan to update more. Just click on the pictures below to lead you to the corresponding page, where you can read the full descriptions for how I made the Bat Alien and Drake customs, as well as view the entire gallery of pictures. Until next time!

Continuing from where I left off with my updated Kenner Sgt. Apone custom, I wanted to tackle the Colonial Marine Drake next. I still have a soft spot for the old Kenner Aliens toy line, which is why I’m having such a blast updating the designs. Drake was made with a NECA Predator Dutch for the body, the head and hands from a Diamond Select Expendables 2 Gunnar Jensen, and lots of fodder. I gave the head a headband and sculpted some hair falling over it, and used some McFarlane Techno Spawn parts for the headset. The bullet straps come from a McFarlane Al Simmons with some pieces of fodder attached. The real star of this custom though, is the Smart Gun. I wanted it to be inspired by the Kenner Smart Gun accessory, but also put in some personal touches to make it look even more intimidating. This thing is made from so many different pieces, I can’t even remember them all. I just dug through my fodder bins and got pieces that I thought would fit to make a giant gun. It also has an articulated stabilizing arm (just like in the movie) that attaches to his bandolier strap. One Kenner accurate paint job later, and now Drake is ready to join Sgt. Apone to stomp some bugs!

I’ve delved into remaking some of the old 90’s Kenner designs already, but now I wanted to try my hand at some of the old video game designs as well. The Bat Alien Xenomorph is inspired by the design of the same character from the early 90’s Alien Vs. Predator SNES game. The main body is a NECA Xenomorph Warrior, the wings come from a Marvel Legends BAF Annihilus, and the feet come from a Kenner Flying Queen Xenomorph. Props to Jin Saotome for this recipe. I wanted to use the same recipe, but give the Bat Alien a more traditional xenomorph-like paint job. I spliced the Annihilus wings onto the Xenomorph’s arms, and hollowed out the Flying Queen feet so the NECA ball joints could fit in them. I sculpted over the dome as well, smoothing it out with divots lining each side to match the SNES game design. One paint job later using black, various shades of gray and green, and a glossy overcoat to give him a slimy appearance, and the Bat Alien is complete and ready to give the Colonial Marines and Predators a run for their money!

New Custom Figure – Agent Phil Coulson, Avengers Movie Style

Hey everyone! I have a brand new custom for your viewing pleasure. You know the past couple of weeks I’ve been on a Movie Marvel kick with Falcon and Winter Soldier, and today is no different. I never liked that Agent Coulson never got the Marvel Legends treatment, so I decided to do my own. I used a shrunken down cast of the Hot Toys Coulson figure to ensure the likeness would be as perfect as possible to actor Clark Gregg. I gave the figure a ton of accessories, including his Destroyer Gun that he used against Loki in The Avengers. Be sure to check out the full photo set and description at the official page for the Coulson custom. And Coulson here is currently for auction on eBay for anyone interested. If you know someone who you think might want a one-of-a-kind custom action figure in their collection, feel free to pass the link along. Thanks for taking a look everybody.

New Custom Figures – Amazing Spider-Man 2 & Arkham Origins Batman

Hey everyone. If you haven’t noticed by now, I have a couple of new customs up this week. First up is an Arkham Origins Batman. I took the Mattel Batman Unlimited figure and gave him lots of extra articulation (including an ab joint!) so now he can be posed much more dynamically. Next, I took the new Marvel Legends Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie figure and gave him a full repaint, gave it some magnetic feet, an alternate Andrew Garfield Peter Parker head, a web line, and a rooftop display base! Both customs are also currently for auction on eBay for those who might be interested. Just click on each photo below to go to the corresponding eBay auction, and be sure to check out the full photo set and descriptions for each custom as well. Thanks for looking!
