A Customizer’s Dream – Action Figure Fodder Lots for Sale

Fellow customizer, and good friend John Mallamas (AKA Jin Saotome) has several auctions up right now that are, as the title implies, a customizer’s dream. About once a year he auctions off several lots of random action figure fodder, and it’s that time right now. All of the lots are priority medium flat rate boxes filled to bursting with random pieces. There’s three separate lots with random fodder, one specifically for capes and coats, and even a Transformers fodder lot! Many of the auctions end later today, so if you’re interested at all in getting some fodder goodness, just CLICK HERE or click each photo below to take you to the corresponding auction. I hope this helps out some customizers out there!

New Custom Figure – Contra Mad Dog and Scorpion Movie Concepts!

It’s been a little while since I last posted a custom. I’ve been hard away actually making them! But to break the fast, here’s my latest project. It’s a set of figures based on the classic arcade game Contra. The two main characters, Bill “Mad Dog” Rizer, and Lance “Scorpion” Bean, reimagined as movie concepts. I asked myself “what if Contra had been turned into a live action movie in the 80’s?”. Of course the only two actors on the planet who could play Mad Dog and Scorpion are Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, respectively. Heck, even the cover to the original game was traced over Predator movie stills. It just seemed perfect. Then all the right pieces fell into place, and after I sprinkled some magic customizing fairy dust (I need to be more careful around paint fumes), that was that! I also recreated three of the weapons from the Contra game: The Spread Gun, Machine Gun, and the Laser, using various acrylic rods and beads. They can easily be swapped between guns too.

The Contra Mad Dog and Scorpion custom figures are currently for auction on eBay. If you’d like to own these, please feel free to bid. If you know someone who might be interested, pass the link along.

Huge Dremel Product Sale on Amazon Right Now!

Hey everyone. I wanted to let all you customizers out there know that there’s a huge sale of Dremel products on Amazon right now. A lot of stuff is near 50% off, and it says you get $10 off if you spend over $125. I have no idea how long it’s supposed to last, but for all the customizers out there this could be really useful. And for anyone thinking of getting into customizing, this is a great place to start, since the Dremel is probably the most invaluable tool to the customizer. Here is the general link to the Dremel sale, but look below for my recommended list of essential Dremel products to get anyone started customizing!

The Dremel Stylus is, in my opinion, the perfect Dremel tool. The grip alone makes is so much easier to hold for long periods of time without cramping or hurting your hand. Not to mention it’s cordless, so you don’t have to worry about cords getting in your way. And this set comes with a ton of different bits. The Dremel MultiPro Chuck is probably my favorite Dremel product. This allows you to work with any Dremel bit of any size, without having to constantly change out the collets, which used to be the most annoying part of using a Dremel before I discovered this.
The Dremel 160 Piece Accessory Kit has, as the name suggests, 160 different pieces. It’s got several sized cutting discs, metal brushes, and even dremel bits for polishing. This is an awesome set that gives you lots of spare bits and pieces at an amazing price. The Dremel Rotary Tool Work Station is generally meant for the regular Dremel tools, without the grip that the Stylus has, but can still be useful regardless. It’s great for helping with precision drilling, as well as lathing. You never have to worry about the Dremel skipping off where you’re trying to work and scratching up your figures in places you didn’t mean to!

I really hope this sale helps a lot of people out there stock up on tools and supplies to help them in their customizing endeavors.

New Custom Action Figure – Man of Steel Movie Masters Repaint with Heat Vision Blast

I promise I’ve been working on a lot of new stuff, I just space and forget to post anything, I get so caught up in the actual customizing. Anyway, I wanted to share my latest custom with you. I took the newly released Superman Man of Steel movie masters figure and gave him a classic style repaint, with very vibrant colors and even gave him his trunks back! I also sculpted a spit curl on him, made it so the figure could look up, and gave him a bunch of accessories like kryptonite rocks and even some heat vision blast attachments! BBTS Is About to Make A Lot of Customizers Very Happy

While browsing BigBadToyStore today, I came across something interesting. It was a bunch of new products from a company called Hobby Base, and they’re perfect for customizers, like myself. It’s a bunch of different figure joints of varying sizes and colors, various strips and sheets of plastic, and just generally a bunch of really cool stuff that I know I could use. I’m always on the lookout for random ball joints to help make figures more posable, and I think this is amazing.

I’ll definitely be stocking up on these, and if you’re a customizer at all, you should do the same. Click here to view the whole assortment of products from Hobby Base currently for pre order.

New Custom Action Figures – Shroud & Flash Thompson Venom, Marvel Legends Style

Hey there. This week’s new customs are both Marvel based. One of them is a more obscure character by the name of Shroud, while the other is decidedly less obscure, Flash Thompson Venom. These were both a lot of fun to do. I took some artistic liberties with Shroud, such as using the very stylized Spawn cape and the textured Black Panther body. Venom required a ton of sculpting and fodder pieces to complete, but I’m happy with both results. Just click on the photos below to visit their corresponding pages so you can view the complete photo sets and the descriptions. Thanks for looking!

New Custom – Ghostbusters Ecto Containment Unit with Lights and Sounds

Custom Ghostbusters 6" Scale Mattel Containment Unit Lights SoundsHey guys! Just wanted to let you know about my latest custom. It’s the Ghostbusters Ecto Containment Unit. I took the one that originally came packaged with Mattel’s Walter Peck action figure, and really went to work on it. The whole thing has been repainted to give it realistic weathering. Then I used up a lot of resources, particularly on GBFans.com and found reference for all the decals that the Containment Unit had in the movie. I went into Photoshop and made HD versions of all of them, printed them on decal paper, and applied them all over the Containment Unit, even on the Ghost Trap enclosure.

I also installed lights and sounds inside the body. I got really lucky there, since the inside is hollow. Both the red and green lights turn on with the flick of the corresponding switch on the back. There’s also a button, and when you press it it plays the “shutdown” noise from the scene where Walter Peck was the Containment Unit turned off unsafely and causes it to explode.

Because the sound has to be run by a 9V battery, I fashioned a housing for it that fits right on the back and I painted it up and added decals to make it look like an old worn electrical box, to help it blend in with everything else. The lights are powered by a CR2032 battery that you can access on the bottom.

Be sure to click here or on the photo below to check out the full set of photos. You can also see the Containment Unit in action by watching the video below as well.

And if this is something you’d like to own, it’s currently for auction on eBay with just a starting bid of $1.00! Thanks for looking.

New Custom Action Figure – Logan/Wolverine, X-Men Movie Style

Hey guys. I have a new custom up in the archive. This time, I did Logan as he was portrayed by Hugh Jackman in the various X-Men movies, as a way to help celebrate the new movie, The Wolverine, coming out next year. He comes with a great likeness to Jackman, removable jacket, two sets of arms (jacketed, and bare), and two sets of hands (claws out, and normal fists), and is fully poseable. Be sure to check out the full photo set and description by clicking here.

And if you’re interested at all in this custom, he’s currently for sale on eBay.

New Custom Action Figure – Amazing Spider-Man with Movie Accurate Repaint & Magnetic Feet

For this week’s new custom, I have something from the Amazing Spider-Man movie. I recently picked up the new Walmart exclusive 6″ figures, and loved the articulation for the Spider-Man figure, but the paint job was severely lacking. So much so that there was hardly any detail on him at all, and the paint scheme was not movie accurate at all. So I went through and gave him a full repaint, head to toe. He has dark washes and bright highlights to bring out the sculpt, I outlined all the webbing on his suit, and lightly dry brushed some mithril silver to give him that slightly metallic look that he had in the movie. I also added powerful magnets in his feet so now he’s officially a “wall crawler” and can stick to any metal surface.

Click here to view the whole photo set, and to read up on how I created the emblem.

And if you’re interested, it’s currently for sale on eBay from now until next Sunday night.
