News – Toy Fair 2012 Round Up

I did not attend Toy Fair this year and have no photos of my own to show off, but I would like to provide a list of what was shown off and provide links to photos that other sites took. I’ll try to make it as comprehensive as a I can, and I will be elaborating on some particular figures that I am very excited for. I’ll update the list as the news and photos come in. Please, join in the discussion.

Review – Ashiko with Cycle Armor – G.I. Joe Pursuit of Cobra, Hasbro

Ashiko with Cycle Armor Hasbro G.I. Joe Pursuit of Cobra

Ashiko has an interesting history, because of his distribution. Hasbro has a habit of only releasing the final wave of something (in this case the final wave of Pursuit of Cobra Alpha vehicles) in Asia and Canada. At that point the only thing any U.S. fans can do is buy them from Canada at an inflated price, or buy them off of the internet at an equally inflated price. That is, until Ashiko started showing up recently at Ross stores.

Ross is a department store where big box retailers will send their unsold goods to die (or be bought at a cheaper amount). This is also something G.I. Joe fans are used to, since the Cobra Attack and Defense 7 packs, as well as the G.I. Joe Resolute 7 packs showed up at Ross stores as well. I took a trip to a local Ross and sure enough found Ashiko with Cycle Armor. I had wanted this figure ever since I saw the prototype. It seemed like such a great concept and felt very reminiscent of the Centurions which I loved as a kid. Keep reading to see if that excited stayed after opening him up!

Earlier this week, Hasbro unveiled several of their movie figures and toys set based on the upcoming G.I. Joe Retaliation movie this June. News – New Hi-Res Image of Hasbro’s Avengers Hellicarrier Playset

Last week I posted several images from the UK Toy Fair showing off Hasbro’s Avengers toys. Included in that was the Hellicarrier. The image was very small and could hardly be made out. But now, it seems as if IGN has gotten a hold of a hi-res image of Hasbro’s upcoming 3ft long S.H.I.E.L.D. Hellicarrier for their Avengers movie toy line. It comes with a Captain America figure and features 4 firing projectile deck cannons. Still no word on price but that should hopefully be revealed next weekend during the New York Toy Fair.

Review – Zombie Viper – G.I. Joe 30th Anniversary, Hasbro

Zombie Viper G.I. Joe 30th Anniversary Hasbro

G.I. Joe is a toy line that is constantly proving to be the best 3 3/4 inch figures on the market. With each new line Hasbro produces, be it Pursuit of Cobra or the current 30th Anniversary, they’re always upping the ante and going far and beyond to prove how much they care about G.I. Joe. Ever since Hasbro started making G.I. Joe figures, they have set the bar for detail, articulation, and accessories. Does the Zombie Viper hold true to tradition?

News – Better Pics of Hasbro’s Avengers Quinjet and More

Toys R’ Us Canada has started taking pre-orders for a number of upcoming Avengers toys from Hasbro including the new Quinjet. As exciting as the preorders are themselves, a bonus to having them is that we now have better quality images than the ones that leaked out last week at the UK Toy Fair.

News – New Marvel Legends Officially Spotted at Retail

Wow! This is certainly a nice surprise. It looks like the first wave of the new 2012 Marvel Legends have finally been spotted here in the United States. There have already been sightings of these figures in the Philippines, so we knew it would be just a short time before they started showing up in America.
