Due to the way the license is set up, NECA wasn’t allowed to make a straight 7″ figure of Michael Keaton’s Batman 1989 portrayal. The only way they could do it is to paint it in the old NES video game colors. With the sculpt being excellent, I decided to change it and repaint the entire thing to look just like the Batman 1989 movie. This involved taking apart the entire figure (luckily NECA makes this easy with how their figures are constructed), including removing the head from inside the cowl (yes there’s a full Michael Keaton face under there). All the pieces were prepped, and then painted. I even put detailing in the face, including the black makeup around the eyes. For the cape, I dediced to do something extra. I took some black rayon material, and used a movie accurate cape pattern to make it. I then made a second cape, and added some wires running through the top for Batman to hold in his hands outstretched to mimic when he first appears in the movie. And now this custom Batman 1989 action figure is ready to take down the criminals of Gotham City!

Custom Action Figure – Predator Armor Dutch Schaefer

Hey everyone! Had to take a break from updating the customs for a couple of weeks in order to get some commissions done. I’m back with a new one, just in time for Halloween! This week I bring you a movie concept of Dutch Schaefer in Predator armor! I always thought it would be awesome to see Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character of Dutch back in another Predator movie, decked out in his old enemy’s armor, maybe hunting down other Predators for the U.S. government. How awesome would that have been? So I took a NECA Predator, stripped all the armor and weapons off, and put them on Dutch. I even included a severed Predator head as a trophy! Sick, right? For the full photo set, and detailed description on how Predator Armor Dutch was made, just click the photo below. And for those interested, Predator Armor Dutch is currently for auction on eBay. If you want to own this custom, or know someone who would, just CLICK HERE to bid. And if this is your first time visiting Mint Condition Customs, be sure to check out the Custom Action Figure Archive to see every single custom I’ve ever made up to this point. The design for Predator Armor Dutch was inspired by a mix of the old Kenner toys, and my desire to see Dutch show up again in another Predator movie. I thought it would have been cool to see Dutch hunting Predators for the U.S. government. Imagine if Schwarzennegger was in the Predators movie, but in the Laurence Fishburne role of Nolan! That would have been awesome. Predator Armor Dutch is made using a NECA Jungle Encounter Dutch, and a NECA Predator, of course. I stripped off all the armor and weapons from the Predator, and basically attached them to Dutch. I used the two pack Dutch, which was all bloodied, so I had to completely repaint him to clean him up. I had to do some major dremeling to the Predator wrist gauntlets, and to Dutch’s forearms, to get them to slip on. I had to dremel some of Dutch’s side to get the armor to fit right as well. I glued all the armor down, and even attached a net launcher from a NECA Predator 2 figure. So now that Dutch is utilizing all the weapons and armor of his greatest enemy, he’s ready to hunt down every last Predator that makes its way to Earth!

Unfortunately I didn’t get the NECA Street Fighter 4 figures when they were first released. I saw some color variants of Ryu, Chun-Li, and Akuma at Toys R Us a couple of weeks ago. Apparently they’re some last minute released from NECA to capitalize on Street Fighter before they’re license runs out and moves to Jazwares. Anyway, I saw the figure and he had a dark blue suit and gray hair. I’m the kind of guy who likes owning the most iconic version of a character as a figure, and I didn’t feel like searching the internet for the first release Akuma so I just painted him up instead.

I painted the gi the light gray-blue that the initial release had, his belt, wrist wraps, and sandals brown, and his hair red. I also painted the symbol on his back that apparently NECA didn’t even add on the first release of the Akuma figure. I felt it was an injustice so I added it and now he’s complete!

News – NECA Aliens Queen & Dog Alien BTS Test Shots

Randy Falk from NECA tweeted a couple of test shot photos showing off the upcoming NECA Aliens Queen Xenomorph and Alien 3 Dog Alien action figures. These are different from the prototypes, which are the original sculpts. While these are unpainted, they are made of plastic in the proper scale to make sure the types of plastic used are correct and that all the joints work. Once these are approved, then they’ll be painted during mass production. In the photos, you can also catch glimpses of test shots for Bishop, Dallas, and Kane as well. Things could change, but the NECA Aliens Queen should be out sometime in October, along with series three of the NECA Aliens line, which will include the Alien 3 Dog Alien, Kane from Alien, and Bishop from Aliens.

New Custom Figures – Kenner Style Aliens Drake, SNES AVP Bat Alien

Hey everyone. I’m back with more new customizing goodness for you. I bring two new customs from one of my favorite franchises ever, Aliens. I have a custom Bat Alien designed after the character from the SNES Alien Vs. Predator game from the early 90’s, repainted with a more traditional Xenomorph color scheme (props to Jin Saotome for the recipe). I also have a custom of the Colonial Marine Smart Gun operator Drake! He’s based off of the look of the old 90’s Kenner action figure. You might remember a while back when I did a custom updating the design of the Kenner Sgt. Apone figure. Well, Drake is a continuation of that series. And yes, I definitely plan to update more. Just click on the pictures below to lead you to the corresponding page, where you can read the full descriptions for how I made the Bat Alien and Drake customs, as well as view the entire gallery of pictures. Until next time!
