New Custom Action Figure – Captain America, Avengers Infinity War (I’m Back!)

Hey guys. I know it’s been a long time since I updated the site. I promise you I haven’t gone anywhere though. I’ve been steadily working the past year and a half on various commissions, I just haven’t had time to update the site. But I’m planning on changing that and slowly start updating regularly again. And with that I bring you my latest custom action figure, Captain America based on his look in Avengers Infinity War as The Nomad! I had to carefully study the trailer frame by frame to get this right. I also made a custom pair of “Vibranium Wakanda Battle Shields” for him to wear on his forearms. These are based on the shields he’s wearing at the end of the trailer. Cap is up on eBay right now, so if you’re interested in owning this custom, just CLICK HERE to bid. Also be sure to check out the full page for Captain America so you can read the entire description on how he was made. And be sure to check out the Youtube Video for exclusive WIP photos. I’ll see you guys later, and I promise it won’t take a year and a half haha.

Captain America is back, but since the events of Civil War he’s changed. He’s now a fugitive on the run. He no longer has his shield and no place to call home. He’s ripped the star from his chest and the Avengers symbols from his shoulders. He’s rolled up his sleeves, let his hair and beard grow out, and now he’s The Nomad. Finding refuge in the city of Wakanda, he’s given two Vibranium Wakanda Battle Shields to help in the fight against the army of the Mad Titan Thanos!

This custom action figure was made by going through the Avengers Infinity War trailer frame by frame to make sure I got all the details just right. The hair and beard are sculpted, as are the forearms and the rolled up sleeves. The “Wakanda Battle Shields” are hand sculpted/crafted and based on the shields Cap wields at the end of the trailer. I dremeled out the star in his chest and sculpted some tattered fabric on the shoulders where the Avengers logo was. I painted the entire thing to give a real, weathered kinda dirty look and now Cap is finally Nomad!

What’s Next for Spider-Man?

Badass Digest said that there have been three different rumors flying around in the last couple of weeks regarding what’s next for Peter Parker. The first is that Sony is considering a soft reboot of Spider-Man with The Sinister Six, which would include a new actor playing Spider-Man. The second is that Sony is planning on shelving the Spider-Man story for the next four to five years to see if any of the side characters can be further developed into their own franchises. Finally, the most recent rumor is that there are talking about doing a crossover storyline between The Avengers and Spider-Man. As Badass Digest explains, it seems that “Sony has no clue what to do with the Wall-crawler.”

With an unclear plan on what to do next, that best action, from a fan’s perspective, would be to do nothing. No good can come from a half-hearted attempt to continue the franchise with little thought behind it—I’m looking at you Spider-Man 3!

The best of the options seems to be to shelf any film projects for awhile. Almost every franchise has done so, including the previous string of Spider-Man films that came five years after Sam Raimi’s Spidey films in 2002, 2004, and 2007.

In theory, Sony might be better off exploring options for the Spider-Man name beyond films. Of course, because they’re so lucrative, the most obvious choice is a new video game. The last Spider-Man game for consoles, The Amazing Spider-Man, was released in 2012. Created with an open world/free-roaming concept, the game received generally positive reviews, with a 7.6/10 rating given from users on GameSpot.

Outside of console games, the Betfair Casino has a Spidey-themed slot/arcade game that allows players the opportunity to make a little money off their fandom. But the look of the two games is vastly different. While the 2012 console game incorporates all the latest graphics and technology that allow today’s video games to be as realistic as possible, Betfair’s title offers a welcomed, nostalgic reminder of how far the franchise has come. Images used for the slot game are very similar to the comic books, with illustrations that look as if they were created by Stan Lee himself.

If the franchise is looking to stay alive by making a new game, it might be a good idea to follow the example that Betfair has set by bringing back the nostalgic look and feel of the comic books. It’s a method that’s proven to be successful in the past. In fact, this approach was recently taken by The Walking Dead, a franchise with similar origins in comics/graphic novels. After a spike in popularity from the series, developers created a game for consoles with similar characters to those in the television show (the likes of which varied from the graphic novels). The video game based on the series, titled The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, received mixed reviews when it was released in 2013, however. It’s obtained a score of only 32/100 according to Metacritic.

What’s interesting is that around the same time, another video game came out that more closely resembled the look of the original graphic novels. Telltale GamesThe Walking Dead: The Game was highly praised by critics and players alike. It was crowned “Game of the Year” in 2012 by Yahoo! Games, the Spike Video Game Awards, and the Game Developer’s Choice Awards. It received a similar title by Destructoid and Digital Trends, too.

If those with the rights to the franchise really feel they need to do something, the best choice of action for Spider-Man’s future is to take a look to the past. Making the comic book pages come alive again with a new game that revives our nostalgia would be a welcomed change to the high-intensity, motion sickness-inducing games that are popular today. If they can pull it off with flesh-eating zombies, they can certainly do the same with a beloved character like Spidey.

Custom Action Figure – Wedding Avengers (Groom & Groomsmen Gifts)

Hey everyone. I know, I know, it’s definitely different from my usual custom action figure subject matter. However, when I was contacted by a groom to be, wanting his friends’ likenesses put on Avengers bodies as a gift for being in his wedding, I couldn’t resist. I loved the sentimentality, and it was nice doing something different. Not only that, but some time after, I was contacted by one of the former groomsmen who wanted to get the groom his own Avengers custom action figure, with him as Nick Fury! Again, I couldn’t resist. It made sense to complete the set, as it were. If nothing else, this project certainly helped me hone my hair sculpting skills. If you want to check out the full photo gallery, complete with a full description on how each custom was made, CLICK HERE or the photo below. And be sure to check out the Youtube video I made for these, which has exclusive WIP (work in progress) photos! And if this is your first time here, do check out the Custom Action Figure Archive, where you can see every single custom action figure I’ve made up to this point. Thanks for looking, and remember that Mint Condition Customs is where toys become Interactive Art!

Don’t forget to check out the video I made for these custom action figures near the bottom of the page to see some exclusive WIP (work in progress) photos!

This set of custom action figures was a commission from a groom to be who wanted to give these to his groomsmen as gifts. He and his friends are Marvel fans, so he requested that I recreate their likenesses as members of the Avengers. The new Hulk head came from a wrestler figure, whose name I forget, but he looks like a 19th century strong man. I had to shave his mustache, and sculpt an entire head of hair over his bald head. The new Cap head started out as a DST Angel head. I pushed the hairline up some and gave him a new hairdo. The new Thor head came from a TNA Eric Young, with sculpted beard and resculpted hair. The new Iron Man head came from a Stargate Teal’c. I removed the forehead symbol, gave him a mustache, and hollowed out an Iron Man head, cut out the face plate, and stuffed the new head inside, so you could see his face.

Some time after this, I was contacted by one of the former groomsmen wanting to get the aforementioned groom his own Avengers custom action figure. Since all the other spots were taken, he felt it was appropriate to turn him into Nick Fury. His head started out as a TNA Sonjay Dutt. I sculpted on his beard, resculpted the hair, and gave him an eyepatch. It’s maybe a bit of a weird set of custom action figures, but I enjoyed doing something different and I really liked the sentiment behind it. If nothing else, I certainly honed my hair sculpting skills!
