I always wanted Mattel to make a proper Ra’s Al Ghul Batman Begins figure, but since that never happened, here I bring you Ra’s Al Ghul in full League of Shadows ninja gear! Ra’s al Ghul was made using a Star Wars the Black Series Episode 3 Obi-Wan Kenobi, the head from a Movie Masters Ra’s Al Ghul, and the forearms from a Movie Masters Batman Begins Batman. I fused the Batman Begins forearms to the Obi-Wan arms, and used Aves Apoxie Sculpt to blend and fill in the gaps. I also added plating to the back of the hands (including the rivets!) with styrene. The lower cloak was replaced with fabric. The belt is made using two strips of styrene, with the belt buckle being fodder that happened to be perfectly movie accurate. Everything was repainted several shades of dark brown to match the movie, with the gauntlets dry brushed lightly for a metallic look. The head was also completely repainted, and I even sculpted in to cover that weird open mouth gap he had before. One katana later and League of Shadows Ra’s Al Ghul is ready to take down Batman and do all that is necessary to cleanse the world of corruption!
New Custom Action Figure – Classic Comic Style Bat Signal 6″ Scaled Light-Up Display
For this week’s new custom, it’s not so much an action figure, as an action figure display piece. With the recent Dark Knight Rises Movie Masters Collect and Connect Bat Signal being released, I decided to give it a classic comic style bat emblem in place of the Nolan style movie emblem. I know many fans were wondering why Mattel hadn’t released a comic style Bat Signal before, so I wanted to change that.
Click here to view the whole photo set, and to read up on how I created the emblem.
And if you’re interested, it’s currently for sale on eBay from now until next Sunday night.
Thanks for looking.
Some New Custom Figures Finally Posted
Sorry it’s been so long since I posted new customs. I get so involved in the actual creation of customs that sometimes I get backlogged with stuff I need to actually post on the site! I’m working on that though, and you should be getting at least one new custom a week from now on. This time though, since I’m so backlogged, you get four! Two G.I. Joe related customs, and two Marvel Legends related customs. Just click on the pictures below to go to their individual pages.
First up is an orange metallic repaint of the G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra Neo Viper Officer. Second for today is a version 2.0 of my custom Space Neo Viper concept, complete with a new spiffy jetpack. Then we have a custom Marvel Legends style figure of Ms. Marvel as Binary, and last up we have a custom Marvel Legends Moondragon figure.
Thanks for looking, and I hope you enjoy the new customs.
Check out my Interview on Poeghostal!
I was recently interviewed by Poeghostal of Poeghostal.com. The interview just went up today. He asked me 5 questions about myself, which after hours of having my eyes pried open by toothpicks while being forced to watch film reels showing unspeakable acts of inhumanity, I gladly answered.
Check out the interview here.
Welcome to Mint Condition Customs
Hello there, and welcome to Mint Condition Customs.
This website is used by me, John Harmon, to showcase my custom action figures. I’ve been customizing professionally since 2007 and have had a previous website showcasing my customs for several years already. However, that website is extremely outdated, and I wanted a new site to not only display my work, but to also make it more interactive.
Here you can view my entire past catalog of custom figures by clicking the link “custom figure archive“, and view several of my latest customs towards the top of the page right under the header. If you see any of my customs that you particularly like, you can share them on a number of social networking sites. There is a series of buttons at the bottom of each custom entry for you to do this, so please feel free to spread the word and share my work.
I customize figures full time and am taking commissions, so if you’re interested then don’t hesitate to contact me! In addition to commissions, I also sell some of my work on eBay, so feel free to check often.
I also offer up a service of action figure repair, for those with a figure that is too rare or expensive to fully replace.
And of course check this space frequently for action figure and toy reviews, news, as well as all sorts of pop culture related goodness.
So once again, Welcome to Mint Condition Customs and enjoy your stay.
About
Hello there! My name is John Harmon and allow me to welcome you to Mint Condition Customs. This site is here to showcase my custom action figures. But what is customizing? Customizing is the art of taking an action figure and making it different. It involves swapping out parts, painting, and sculpting to either improve upon the existing figure or turn it into a completely different character. A custom is a one of a kid piece of art, but I always make sure that my customs can be played with and posed as well. I make it my business to help people fill gaps in their collections where the toy companies have not.
I’ve been a professional artist and customizer for many years. I got my start in customizing by making Marvel Movie customs to fill out my collection. I’ve been tinkering and altering my toys ever since I was a kid, but sometime around 2007 is when I really got into full fledged customizing, and got the idea to do it professionally.
Feel free to look around, and if you’re in need of a custom, then you’re in luck! I take commissions full time. I also offer a service of action figure repair if you are in need. Also, don’t forget to check out my action figure and toy reviews on the main page!
You can also find me and my work on various other toy related websites and forums. I’ve been featured prominently on Toy News International multiple times, and have had several interviews done about me and my work.
So there you go. Just a little bit about me and what I do. If you’re interested in starting to customize figures, and have questions feel free to send me an email and I’ll always answer every question I get. Enjoy your stay here at Mint Condition Customs.
